Code of Practice

Standards

Independence

Like anyone, we will have our favourite tools and tool vendors. However, we have an absolute commitment to appropriateness, and will never knowingly suggest anything other than the most appropriate vendor and tool.

We have no "method" to sell. That is, we don't want to offer a notation or a method that is uniquely Matrice's; other organisations have already done too much of that. We decided to back the UML back when version 0.8 first appeared. Of course the UML is only a notation, so what we have done is integrated existing process models and best practices in order to offer a sensible (formal yet pragmatic) approach to the software development process.

Appropriateness

We will not accept a commission if we feel that the commission is unlikely to be appropriate or unlikely to succeed.

We will suggest the introduction and level of tools--especially CASE tools--only as and where appropriate. We are quite prepared to suggest that the best option is "not yet", or even "not at all".

Expertise

Our lecturers and consultants will be experts in the subjects required for the commission. We believe it vital that consulting and training organisations practise what they preach and remain up to date. Matrice engages in R&D and development.

Openness

Whilst we are delighted to be of continuing benefit, a client should be less likely to need us for a similar problem in the future: we will do the work and we will make it clear how we did the work.

Professional Standards

All of our consultants and lecturers are members or provisional members of the British Computer Society and thus, in addition to following our own beliefs and values, honour the BCS's code of practice.

Guarantee

We will not charge you for a programme component or course if you are not happy with it, provided that:

  • The organiser and one of the participants has notified us, verbally, within two working days of completion of the course or component, with a description of what was wrong or inadequate. We will arrange a conference call to accomplish this if necessary.
  • A write-up has been provided of the problem areas.
  • Matrice has been allowed the opportunity to rectify the problem.
  • Any deliverables, such as course materials, have been returned to us.
