Distance Learning

Matrice is now offering distance learning through a combination of forums, email, telephone and printed (or PDF) material.

Getting to a course can be difficult. So can finding several consecutive days for a course. Often when you book on a traditional scheduled course, it is not at all certain that the course will run anyway; scheduled courses are frequently cancelled because of low numbers, even by the biggest training companies.

These courses are based on the highly regarded, customer-site courses that we have been delivering and refining for the last ten years. You will be told who your "lecturer" is going to be during the ordering process; and it won't be a novice, it will be someone with lots of experience.

We find that given the individualisation, each mailing and follow up is equivalent to a day of training. And of course you save travel and accommodation costs.

How Does It Work?

You receive up to four mailings of pre-reading via post or email. Following a mailing, you would familiarise yourself with its material and note questions, arguments and observations. Each mailing is followed up by a 60 - 90 minute, one-to-one telephone "lecture". If a student has fax and/or netcam, we press those into use during the call as required.

Each lecture is followed by an exercise, the results of which are posted or faxed (or emailed) back to your lecturer for analysis and debrief later that day or the next day.

You and your lecturer agree on the schedule beforehand -- typically a course of the length of UML would take place over two to three weeks. During the "course" and for two weeks afterwards, an email and/or a web forum allowance can be used for further discussion.

Courses

The following links will lead you to descriptions of the three courses being offered as distance courses. For the moment they are links to the descriptions of the regular courses, but the distance versions have the same aims and contents.

Cost

  • Object-Oriented Analysis and Design using UML course: £1250 plus VAT per individual
  • Introduction to Databases course: £625 plus VAT per individual
  • Advanced and Modern Databases course: £625 plus VAT per individual

For participants in the UK, these prices include the cost of the telephone calls and postage from us to you.
